Family functions are always an excuse to eat more than we normally do. The massive array of food that is put out calls to members of the family to finish it so there will be no left overs. I had a family function today, actually, we have one every August. It started to celebrate my great grandmother’s Augut birthday, and just continued after she passed on in 2004. The whole family gets together and brings their speciality. Mom made cole slaw and seasoned pretzals, aunts made veggie pizza (my favorite of the day) bacon wrapped jalpeano poppers, bacon bbq weiners, fried chicken, pulled pork, and dip. Weirdly enough, all the deserts, which consisted of a cake and some cookies. I had been tempted to bring my checkerboard cake but didn’t. I almost wished I did. Either way, today’s gathering was filled with some delicous food and conversation.
